Tapered Roller Bearings are further classified into:
Single Row
A Single Row Tapered Roller Bearing can support combined radial and axial load. However, if an application has a bi-directional axial load, then two single row tapered roller bearings can be used together in a back-to-back or face-to-face mounting pattern.
Double Row
Double Row Tapered Roller Bearings are specially made to sustain radial and bi-directional axial loads.
Four Row
Four Row Tapered Roller Bearings can support much heavier radial and impact loads, in addition to standard capabilities of a Double Row Tapered Roller Bearings. Suitable for very high load applications.
Single row tapered roller bearings are separable , the inner ring with roller and cage assembly can be mounted separately from the outer ring. Tapered roller bearings have tapered inner and outer ring raceways and tapered rollers. tapered roller bearings features enable it to accommodate combined loads. The projection lines of the raceways meet at a common point on the bearing axis to provide true rolling and low friction.
Double row tapered roller bearings can carry heavy loads and are stiff. They are suitable for the accommodation of combined (radial and axial) loads and can locate a shaft axially in both directions with a given axial clearance or a given preload. Their main use is in gearboxes, hoisting equipment, rolling mills and machines used in the mining industry, e.g. tunnelling machines.
double row tapered roller bearings are produced in two configurations and in several different designs:
The TDO configuration; bearings of the TDO configuration have one double row outer ring (cup) and two inner rings with roller and cage assembly (cones).
The TDI configuration which comprises one double row inner ring with two roller and cage assemblies and two outer rings.
four-row taper roller bearings are available in a wide range of sizes and designs appropriate to the application. Four-row taper roller bearings are used successfully worldwide for rolling mill bearing arrangements, particularly as work and back-up roll bearings for hot as well as cold rolling mills. As they can support both heavy radial loads and simultaneously acting axial loads they permit simple and cost effective roll neck bearing arrangements.
